A COMPOSITION ON THE MOVIE "50 FIRST DATES"
Basically, this film is a love story covered in a humorous packing, so we can call it a comedy as well. It takes place on a beautiful egzotic island. The main character of the movie is a man called Henry, who's fond of two things: sea creatures and girls. He is dating with several women almost at the same time. Once upon a time, he meets a young lady at a small restaurant and falls in love with her right at the moment of the first glance and he wants her to feel the same. First he seems to succeed with this girl named Lucy, who is different from the others, extremely different .... Next day it turns out that she suffered a kind of brain damage in a car accident: she lost her short-term memory, so she wakes up every morning believing it's her father's birthday ( which was a year ago, on the day of the crash ). Her brain can't store any new memories, which makes the situation a real challenge for Henry, who wants the girl anyway. Lucy's father and brother don't let her realize the changes, that's why they act as it was one year earlier every single day. First, Henry does the same thing and uses whatever trick he can make up to take her off her legs every day. But after so many "first dates" he decides to record a video casette which can tell Lucy about her accident and the events of the last year every morning .... and this plan works! All go without a hitch until a night which they spend together. Of course, Lucy forgets everything happened last night .... After this small mess, she decides on breaking up with Henry to protect him from having the same life as her family. She erases him from her diary, which is to compensate her short-term memory, and from her life. Henry starts his trip with the ship he made by himself to examine the marine life. He gets a CD as a last gift from Lucy's father, in fact from Lucy herself, which reminds him of those wonderful days they spent together. This makes Henry realize that Lucy remembers him .... He goes back to the institution to meet her. To his surprise, Lucy really remembers him! - or actually, she dreams about him and has painted a lot of pictures of him. The film ends as Lucy wakes up, watches the video of their wedding ceremony, looks out of the window, notices that she's on the board of a ship, goes up and Henry says good morning to her and their daughter does the same. So, they live happily together being glad to have each other .... As far as my own mind is concerned, my favourite part in the movie was when they met Tom, the guy who had 10 seconds' memory and introduced himself every 10 seconds. Though, he lived a happy life, at least he thought he did. He was always smiling and laughing, that's why his character can't really catch the viewer .... his cast isn't dramatic at all this way. Actually, I liked the ending very much, because it wasn't like this: Lucy gets back his memory and they are happy. That wouldn't have been good, as I just can't stand love stories and such unrealistic "happy end" -s.
